SOUND AND SPIRIT

February 2019 - January 2021

With the beat of a drum, the pluck of a harp string, or the melodic tune of a balafon, African musical instruments have played and important role throughout history as a way to connect with ancestral spirits.

Village gatherings provoke celebrations as a call to action and ritual. As chosen storytellers lead their eager audiences on a journey through time with song and dance.

The oral traditions pass down wisdom to their communities, helping to develop the imagination, teach important lessons, find purpose, and keep generations linked through sound and spirit.
