FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Savannah African Art Museum offers a specialized tour for the members of our community that rely on touch for a sensory experience. 

The topic of each tour will focus around a theme based on the request of the individual scheduling the tour with the museum. We have several different themes covered on tours such as, Leadership, Initiation, Problem Solving, Prestige, and Ancestry and Spirits. These specialized tours feature material elements of objects highlighted on the tour and they are used to heighten the guest's sensory experience.

Visiting groups cannot exceed 30 individuals. If your group is large than 30 you will be asked to divide your group and schedule them at another time. Scheduling your tour must be done no sooner than 2 weeks from the date of your tour. Any unscheduled groups that arrive to the museum may not be able to be accommodated and will be turned away if other tours are booked.

The Savannah African Art Museum offers 3 tour types below that focus on different themes of Leadership, Initiation, Problem Solving, Prestige, and Ancestry and Spirits. 

** Please be aware that tours last on average 60 minutes in length.

Our West Africa Tour takes an in depth look at the art and cultures from the countries of West Africa. 

This tour comprises of the galleries we have located on the first floor of the museum, including the rotating exhibition gallery.

Our Central African Tour takes an in depth look at the art and cultures from the countries of Central and East Africa. 

This tour comprises of the galleries we have located on the second floor of the museum, in addition to the the rotating exhibition gallery on the first floor.

Best of both worlds! 

Our Highlights Tour covers a hand full of highlight works from both of our floors dedicated to West and Central African art. 
This tour is recommended for new visitors who are new to or are unfamiliar with the collection and the museum.
